Wontcha Dance With Me

Billy Lee Ackerley wrote Wontcha Dance With Me on or before 1983. He recorded it at the recording studio his renters built in his house on 445 E. Brundage, in Sheridan Wyoming. He put it on his The Beginning album. Musicians from Florida to California were hired to perform on it. The recording quality was not so good, but the musicians were excellent. Billy and the lead guitar player, Pat DeLeon, have been friends ever since. Pat lives in Miami. A year or so after the album recording, Pat Deleon came to Sheridan to play in Billy's band: The Ackerley Bunch. People are still talking about that great band. It was a big help in Billy's career.
If  you google Billy Lee Ackerley, you also find Pat DeLeon. If you google Pat DeLeon, you also find Billy Lee Ackerley. They have been kicking around the idea of recording together again. Maybe in Miami next time.
Wontcha Dance With Me is a rockabilly style song, and it is a fun one. Billy wrote, recorded, copyrighted, published, and produced the song himself..

Billy Lee Ackerley, Little Petey

Little Petey was written by Billy Lee Ackerley at his home, on 10/26/87. He wrote it in 45 minutes, which is the amount of time it took most of his songs. It is a western song about a young man who wanted to be a gunfighter, but got shot because he was slower on the draw.
It was recorded, copyrighted, published, and produced by Billy Lee Ackerley. And, was put on his Wyoming's Centennial Album, which celebrated Wyoming becoming a state in 1890. Of  course the album was recorded in Wyoming in 1990. He rode his Arabian horse in the Sheridan, WY rodeo parade to promote the album. He had the album cover on his saddle. And, his horse was black, as was his custom stage uniform he wore-which he had designed and had made by Carlene Hammontree.
Now and then someone still mentions seeing that ride.

Hairy Legged Russian Girls

Billy Lee Ackerley's Hairy Legged Russian Girls song was written by him and recorded for his Wyoming's Centennial Album. He wrote it at his home in Big Horn, Wyoming. It only took about 20 minutes to write. Billy said that sometimes  songs came to him so fast that he couldn't hardly write them down fast enough.
This song came to him on 12/13/86. It was copyrighted, published, produced, and recorded by Billy Lee Ackerley.
After he had recorded the song, Billy saw some pictures of Russian Girls, and realized how beautiful many of them are. However, the song is meant to be humorous and light hearted. Like the funny stories he had heard.
