Heart Of Stone, was written, recorded, copyrighted, produced, and published, by Billy Lee Ackerley. He wrote it on May 12, 1986, and it took about 50 minutes to write.
Billy was going to Nashville later that year, and he needed more songs to put on his Space Age Cowboy album, which he recorded with Bill Anderson's band. He wrote it at his father's motel in Sheridan, WY, where Billy lived for a while after his house burned down in Big Horn, WY.
Heart Of Stone is not the same Heart Of Stone the Rolling Stones recorded. However, Billy Lee Ackerley gave a copy of his Space Age Cowboy album to RCA Records. About 6 months later, RCA put out versions of the song, rewritten, by Bailly And The Boys, and other artists.
All with no credit or reimbursment to Billy Lee Ackerley.
Billy's song: I Need A One Man Woman, was also rewritten by RCA and recorded by George Jones. With no credit given to Billy.
It, and Heart Of Stone, were hits.
